The NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said there was “evidence of local transmission of COVID-19 at very low levels [in NSW]”.
Referring to the Lane Cove Year 2 Student who tested positive to Covid-19 yesterday, Dr Chant noted that, the student has not been in contact with any known source of the virus and lives kilometres away from the last case of community transmission reported on June 14 in Shellharbour.
Epidemiologist Dr Sacha Stelzer-Braid told 7NEWS.com.au NSW had clearly not eliminated coronavirus.
“There must be some really low level in the community and every now and then it pops up,” Stelzer-Braid said.
She believes the seemingly random coronavirus cases could be spread by people who were asymptomatic or presymptomatic
